Bread Drop is the name of Grace’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich-making ministry. These nutritious, protein-packed sandwiches are delivered weekly to four locations in Philadelphia (see below) which support families, children, and individuals experiencing homelessness.
The PB and J sandwiches are made like the ones you had as a kid, with slabs of peanut butter and jelly that provide 400 calories and plenty of protein.
How can you help? By doing any of the items listed below:
Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. These instructions, for a simple sandwich, allow for the sandwiches to be easy to eat and consistent across batches. Take a loaf (or two or more) of white sandwich bread. Spread a thin coating of (smooth) peanut butter on one piece of bread then coat with a healthy amount of grape jelly. Spread a thicker slab of peanut butter on the other piece of bread and put the sandwich together. Stow the sandwich in a resealable plastic sandwich baggie, then stack the sandwiches back together in the bread loaf sleeve and use the twist tie to seal the sleeve.
Donate fruit. Fruit like apples and oranges are best; please put 2-3 pieces of fruit in a baggie to make it easier to hand out.
Donate water bottles. When it is very hot outside, water is critical. Please limit your water donations to no more than 2 cases at a time.
Pray for the drivers who deliver the sandwiches, fruit and water. They are using their own vehicles and donating their time to deliver the donations in Philadelphia each week.
Pray for the E-Meal volunteers at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Souderton who are coordinating not only Bread Drop but also the E-Meal program which helps our local community.
