Feeding and Being Fed

A member of Grace who has been making sandwiches remarked on how important it has been for her to have something to do in these weeks.  She has food and shelter and everything she and her family need.  She’s discovered that by responding to the basic need of providing food for someone who does not know where his or her next meal is coming from also feeds something important in her.

We feed and are fed.

This week Grace gathered 2,191 sandwiches which was enough for distribution on THREE days.  Of that, Grace people made 43% of those sandwiches.  But by our example, we have gathered into a sandwich-making coalition 13 congregations, 3 food cupboards, a non-profit, and a crew of individuals.  Mighty Grace!  Thanks be to God!  It begins so simply:

The apostle Paul shows us that giving and receiving are tied together in this way:

10 I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned for me, but had no opportunity to show it. 11Not that I am referring to being in need; for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. 12I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. 13I can do all things through him who strengthens me. 14In any case, it was kind of you to share my distress. [Philippians 4]

It may be more comfortable for many of us to give, but it is blessed to be able both to give and to receive.

All I have needed, O LORD, thy hand hath provided!
